Today started out as a wonderful Thursday. Katie had made some cookies & brought out samples for all of the girls to try yesterday…so of course, that led to “Cookie Thursday” with a new batch to share…so if you have a reason to come out today, we have plenty of extras!

Donna had a great morning capturing some adorable photos of some of the cutest kids! Jamie and Briggs came out for Briggs’ 2 year pictures and Lydee Jo and Brecken came out for Brecken’s 1 year. They got lots of great pictures with pumpkins, leaves, straw and wagons; perfect for fall!

Now for the action…Loper (Donna’s dog) has been going crazy all morning…barking & barking, for what we thought was no reason. Boy were we wrong! Donna and Betsy were the brave ones who went out to investigate Loper’s prey. The critter was trapped in an extra gutter laying behind the tool shed. Now the dilemma was how to get it out with out getting too close. Being the resourceful person Donna is, she sees a fence post leaning nearby and uses it to lift one end of the gutter up…she couldn’t lift it high enough to flush the critter, but that sure did aggrivate it! A lot of screeching was now accompanying the barking and Donna is officially worried! Using the fence post weapon, they raised the other end of the gutter which was an unfortunate success…instant stench! Now I am sure you are probably thinking it is a skunk, thank God it wasn’t, but it was probably the second worst thing, a Mink!

Google has informed us that the Mink, like the skunk, sprays its attacker with an awful odor to deter it, but it doesn’t aim like the skunk so it just leaves an overwhelming smell…everywhere!

Now the fight is on! Loper is trying to kill the Mink and even though the mink is no bigger then an over-sized rat, it seems as though it really thinks it can kill Loper. They ran circles all around the back yard all while Donna is screaming in terror and Betsy is yelling at Loper to come in hopes that the Mink will just run off and leave them all alone. Well, Loper wouldn’t listen and Donna wouldn’t stop worrying that Loper would get bitten and get rabies, so they all continued to yell {for like 3 minutes which of course accomplished nothing :)} The Mink found refuge under the propane tank. There Loper’s long nose could get under but could not make the kill. With the Mink trapped, Donna and Betsy did the only thing we knew to do…call a man :) By the time they had the man on the phone and ventured back outside, Loper was at the door with a trace of blood on his tongue? After an extensive investigation, we were unable to find the mink but there was blood on the propane tank as well. The conclusion is that Loper got the Mink and thought he killed it, so he came to get us but he must have only injured it, better then nothing :)

All in all who needs a man when you got a dog :)

(I am certain this is the longest post ever made at Digital Dreams Photography…and most intense!)
